The Reaper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHIE JHEHE FKLKE MNONE FPQPE RSTSE

All through the blood red AutumnA
When the harvest came to the fullB
When the days were sweet with sunshineC
And the nights were wonderfulD
The Reaper reaped without ceasingE
-
All through the roaring WinterF
When the skies were black with wrathG
When earth alone slept soundlyH
And the seas were white with frothI
The Reaper reaped without ceasingE
-
All through the quick of the Spring timeJ
When the birds sang cheerilyH
When the trees and the flowers were burgeoningE
And men went wearilyH
The Reaper reaped without ceasingE
-
All through the blazing SummerF
When the year was at its bestK
When Earth subserving God aloneL
In her fairest robes was dressedK
The Reaper reaped without ceasingE
-
So through the Seasons' roundingsM
While nature waxed and wanedN
And only man by thrall of manO
Was scarred and marred and stainedN
The Reaper reaped without ceasingE
-
How long O Lord shall the ReaperF
Harry the growing fieldP
Stretch out Thy Hand and stay himQ
Lest the future no fruit yieldP
And the Gleaner find nought for His gleaningE
-
Thy Might alone can end itR
This fratricidal strifeS
Our souls are sick with the tale of deathT
Redeem us back to lifeS
That the Gleaner be glad in His gleaningE
