The Potter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACA DEFDGD HIIHJH

A Potter playing with his lump of clayA
Fashioned an image of supremest worthB
Never was nobler image made on earthB
Than this that I have fashioned of my clayA
And I of mine own skill did fashion itC
I from this lump of clayA
-
The Master looking out on Pots and MenD
Heard his vain boasting smiled at that he saidE
The clay is Mine and I the Potter madeF
As I made all things stars and clay and menD
In what doth this man overpass the restG
Be thou as other menD
-
He touched the Image and it fell to dustH
He touched the Potter he to dust did fallI
Gently the Master I did make them allI
All things and men heaven's glories and the dustH
Who with Me works shall quicken death itselfJ
Without Me dust is dustH
