Hark The drums Muffled drumsA
The long low ruffle of the drumsA
And every head is bowedB
In the vast expectant crowdB
As the Great Queen comesA
By the way she knew so wellC
Where our cheers were wont to swellC
As we tried in vain to tellC
Of our love unspeakableD
Now she comesA
To the rolling of the drumsA
And the slow sad tolling of the bellC
Let every head be bowedB
In the silent waiting crowdB
As the Great Queen comesA
To the slow sad ruffle of the drumsA
-
Who is this that comesA
To the rolling of the drumsA
In the sorrowful great silence of the peoplesE
Take heart of graceF
She is not hereG
The Great Queen is not hereG
What most in her we did revereH
The lofty spirit white and clearH
The tender love that knew no fearH
The soul sincereH
These come not hereG
To the rolling of the drumsA
In the silence and the sorrow of the peoplesE
-
Death has but little partI
In her Love cannot dieJ
Who reigns in every heartI
Hath immortalityK
So though our heads are bentL
Our hearts are jubilantM
As she comesA
As a conqueror she comesA
With the rolling of the drumsA
To the stateliest of her homesN
In the hearts of her true and faithful peoplesE
For the Great Queen lives for everO
In the hearts of those who love herO
