On Christmas Day The Child was bornA
On Christmas Day in the morningB
To tread the long way lone and lornA
To wear the bitter crown of thornA
To break the heart by man's sins tornA
To die at last the Death of ScornA
For this The Child of The Maid was bornA
On Christmas Day in the morningB
-
But that first day when He was bornA
Among the cattle and the cornA
The sweet Maid Mother wonderingB
And sweetly deeply ponderingB
The words that in her heart did ringB
Unto her new born king did singB
-
My baby my babyC
My own little sonA
Whence come youD
Where go youD
My own little oneA
Whence come youD
-
Ah now unto me all aloneA
That wonder of wonders is properly knownA
Where go youD
Ah that now 'tis only He knowsE
Who sweetly on us dear such favour bestowsE
In us dear this day is some great work begunA
Ah me little son dear I would it were doneA
I wonder I wonderF
And wish it were doneA
-
O little little feet dearsE
So curly curly sweetG
How will it be with you dearsE
When all your work's completeG
O little little hands dearsE
That creep about my breastH
What great things you will do dearsE
Before you lie at restH
O softest little head dearI
It shall have crown of goldJ
For it shall have great honourI
Before the world grows oldJ
O sweet white soft round bodyC
It shall sit upon a throneA
My little one my little oneA
Thou art the Highest's sonA
All this the angel told meC
And so I'm sure it's trueI
For he told me who was comingB
And that sweet thing is YOUI
-
On Christmas Day The Child was bornA
On Christmas Day in the morningB
He trod the long way lone and lornA
He wore the bitter crown of thornA
His hands and feet and heart were tornA
He died at last the Death of ScornA
But through His coming Death was slainA
That you and I might live againA
-
For this The Child of The Maid was bornA
On Christmas Day in the morningB
