When the Bells of Ys rang softly softlyA
Soft and sweet and lowB
Not a sound was heard in the old gray townC
As the silvery tones came floating downC
But life stood still with uncovered headD
And doers of ill did good insteadD
And abroad the Peace of God was shedD
When the bells aloft sang softly softlyA
Soft and sweet and lowB
The Silver Bells and the Golden BellsE
Aloft and aloft and alowB
-
And still those Bells ring softly softlyB
Soft and sweet and lowB
Though full twelve hundred years have goneF
Since the waves rolled over the old gray townC
Bold men of the sea in the grip of the flowB
Still hear the Bells as they pass and goB
Or win to life with their hearts aglowB
When the Bells below sing softly softlyB
Soft and sweet and lowB
The Silver Bells and the Golden BellsE
Alow and alow and alowB
-
O the Mystical Bells they still ring softlyB
Soft and sweet and lowB
For the sound of their singing shall never dieG
In the hearts that are tuned to their melodyB
And down in the world's wild rush and roarH
That sweeps us along to the Opening DoorH
-
Hearts still beat high as they beat of yoreH
When the Bells sing softly softly softlyB
Soft and sweet and lowB
The Silver Bells and the Golden BellsE
Alow and aloft and alowB
