Thank God for PeaceB
Up to the sombre skyC
Rolled one great thankful sighC
Rolled one great gladsome cryC
The soul's deliverance of a mighty peopleD
Thank God for PeaceB
-
The long low hanging war cloud rolled awayE
And night glowed brighter than the brightest dayE
For Peace is LightF
And War is grimmer than the NightF
-
Thank God for PeaceB
Great ocean was your mighty calm unstirredF
As through your depths unseen unheardF
Sped on its way the glorious wordF
That called a weary nation to ungirdF
And sheathed once more the keen reluctant swordF
-
Thank God for PeaceB
The word came to us as we knelt in prayerG
That wars might ceaseB
Peace found us on our knees and prayer for PeaceB
Was changed to prayer of deepest thankfulnessB
We knelt in War we rose in Peace to blessB
Thy grace Thy care Thy tendernessB
-
Thank God for PeaceB
No matter now the rights and wrongs of itF
You fought us bravely and we fought you fairG
The fight is done Grip hands No malice bearG
We greet you brothers to the nobler strifeH
Of building up the newer larger lifeH
-
Join hands Join hands Ye nations of the stockI
And make henceforth a mighty Trust for PeaceB
A great enduring peace that shall withstandF
The shocks of time and circumstance and every landF
Shall rise and bless you and shall never ceaseB
To bless you for that glorious gift of PeaceB
