Temps futursA
-
Part Lux Jersey DecB
-
-
O vision of the coming timeC
When man has 'scaped the trackless slimeC
And reached the desert springD
When sands are crossed the sward invitesA
The worn to rest 'mid rare delightsA
And gratefully to singD
-
E'en now the eye that's levelled highE
Though dimly can the hope espyF
-
So solid soon one dayG
For every chain must then be brokeH
And hatred none will dare evokeH
And June shall scatter MayG
-
E'en now amid our miseryF
The germ of Union many seeF
And through the hedge of thornI
Like to a bee that dawn awakesF
On Progress strides o'er shattered stakesF
With solemn scathing scornI
-
Behold the blackness shrink and fleeF
Behold the world rise up so freeF
Of coroneted thingsF
Whilst o'er the distant youthful StatesF
Like Amazonian bosom platesF
Spread Freedom's shielding wingsF
-
Ye liberated lands we hailJ
Your sails are whole despite the galeJ
Your masts are firm and will not failJ
The triumph follows painK
Hear forges roar the hammer clanksF
It beats the time to nations' thanksF
At last a peaceful strainK
-
'Tis rust not gore that gnaws the gunsF
And shattered shells are but the runsF
Where warring insects copeL
And all the headsman's racks and bladesF
And pincers tools of tyrants' aidsF
Are buried with the ropeL
-
Upon the sky line glows i' the darkM
The Sun that now is but a sparkM
But soon will be unfurledN
The glorious banner of us allO
The flag that rises ne'er to fallO
Republic of the WorldN
