The Poor Children Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGHG IJIJ KLKL

Take heed of this small child of earthA
He is great he hath in him God most highB
Children before their fleshly birthA
Are lights alive in the blue skyB
-
In our light bitter world of wrongC
They come God gives us them awhileD
His speech is in their stammering tongueE
And his forgiveness in their smileD
-
Their sweet light rests upon our eyesF
Alas their right to joy is plainG
If they are hungry ParadiseH
Weeps and if cold Heaven thrills with painG
-
The want that saps their sinless flowerI
Speaks judgment on sin's ministersJ
Man holds an angel in his powerI
Ah deep in Heaven what thunder stirsJ
-
When God seeks out these tender thingsK
Whom in the shadow where we sleepL
He sends us clothed about with wingsK
And finds them ragged babes that weepL
