PRELUDE bB
-
-
Now vot'ries of the Muses turn your eyesA
Unto the East and say what there appearsA
Alas the voice of Poesy repliesA
Mystic's that light between the hemispheresA
-
Yes dread's the mystic light in yonder heavenC
Dull is the gleam behind the distant hillD
Like feeble flashes in the welkin drivenC
When the far thunder seems as it were stillD
-
But who can tell if that uncertain glareE
Be Phoebus' self adorned with glowing vestF
Or if illusions pregnant in the airE
Have drawn our glances to the radiant westF
-
Haply the sunset has deceived the sightG
Perchance 'tis evening while we look for morningH
Bewildered in the mazes of twilightG
That lucid sunset may appear a dawningH
