Ruth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCAA DDEE FFGG HHIJ

She stood breast high amid the cornA
Clasp'd by the golden light of mornA
Like the sweetheart of the sunB
Who many a glowing kiss had wonB
-
On her cheek an autumn flushC
Deeply ripen'd such a blushC
In the midst of brown was bornA
Like red poppies grown with cornA
-
Round her eyes her tresses fellD
Which were blackest none could tellD
But long lashes veil'd a lightE
That had else been all too brightE
-
And her hat with shady brimF
Made her tressy forehead dimF
Thus she stood amid the stooksG
Praising God with sweetest looksG
-
Sure I said Heav'n did not meanH
Where I reap thou shouldst but gleanH
Lay thy sheaf adown and comeI
Share my harvest and my homeJ
