O saw ye not fair InesA
She 's gone into the WestB
To dazzle when the sun is downC
And rob the world of restB
She took our daylight with herD
The smiles that we love bestB
With morning blushes on her cheekE
And pearls upon her breastB
-
O turn again fair InesA
Before the fall of nightF
For fear the Moon should shine aloneG
And stars unrivall'd brightF
And bless egrave d will the lover beH
That walks beneath their lightF
And breathes the love against thy cheekE
I dare not even writeF
-
Would I had been fair InesA
That gallant cavalierI
Who rode so gaily by thy sideJ
And whisper'd thee so nearI
Were there no bonny dames at homeK
Or no true lovers hereL
That he should cross the seas to winM
The dearest of the dearI
-
I saw thee lovely InesA
Descend along the shoreN
With bands of noble gentlemenM
And banners waved beforeN
And gentle youth and maidens gayO
And snowy plumes they woreN
It would have been a beauteous dreamP
If it had been no moreN
-
Alas alas fair InesA
She went away with songQ
With Music waiting on her stepsR
And shoutings of the throngQ
But some were sad and felt no mirthS
But only Music's wrongQ
In sounds that sang Farewell farewellT
To her you've loved so longQ
-
Farewell farewell fair InesA
That vessel never boreN
So fair a lady on its deckU
Nor danced so light beforeN
Alas for pleasure on the seaH
And sorrow on the shoreN
The smile that bless'd one lover's heartV
Has broken many moreN
