The Gift Outright Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNNO

The land was ours before we were the land'sA
She was our land more than a hundred yearsB
Before we were her people She was oursC
In Massachusetts in VirginiaD
But we were England's still colonialsE
Possessing what we still were unpossessed byF
Possessed by what we now no more possessedG
Something we were withholding made us weakH
Until we found out that it was ourselvesI
We were withholding from our land of livingJ
And forthwith found salvation in surrenderK
Such as we were we gave ourselves outrightL
The deed of gift was many deeds of warM
To the land vaguely realizing westwardN
But still unstoried artless unenhancedN
Such as she was such as she would becomeO
