Where the sun rises firstA
A girl The Battle Within A Tale of an Ordinary Woman was bornB
In jasmine fieldsC
She danced like a monsoon peacockD
-
A little princessE
In her adobe homeF
A free birdG
In endless skiesH
-
Youth bloomedI
Like a lotus pureJ
Her heart secureJ
Her dreams rebornB
-
She dreamed of loveK
A ring a promiseL
A Prince CharmingM
On a white horseN
A future with wingsO
She had yet to wearP
-
She felt herselfQ
An untouched princessE
Yet did not knowR
She was raisedS
As a paraya dhanR
-
Still she soaredT
Still she dreamedU
With open heartV
And eyes wide to the skyW
-
The little bird thoughtX
She d finally slipped freeY
From the cage of her childhoodZ
Released too earlyY
Too fragileA2
But ready to flyW
-
She didn t yet knowR
That fate was waitingM
Quiet and cruelA2
To lead her fromB2
One cageC2
Into anotherD2
A freedom promisedE2
A freedom never givenR
-
Yet marriage cameF2
With many quiet clippersG2
And slowlyY
One by oneR
Her wings were trimmed awayH2
-
She fell to the groundI2
Lost beneath the weightJ2
Of the dreams she once carriedK2
-
Still she rose each timeL2
Brushing off the dustE2
Gathering whatever courageM2
Her heart could findN2
And trying once more to moveO2
-
She died a little every dayH2
Yet somehow remained aliveP2
Breathing walkingM
EnduringM
Even when her spiritQ2
Was breakingM
-
Targeted with arrowsR2
On her tender restless heartV
Days turned to monthsS2
And months to yearsT2
Each one cutting a little deeperD2
-
Her soft young heartV
Wept and weptU2
Until the memory of smilingM
Slipped away from her faceV2
-
Then two little beautiful birdiesW2
Flew into her worldX2
And she dreamed of shielding themY2
From every clipZ2
Every cageC2
Every wound she had knownR
-
But stillA3
She died a little each dayH2
Yet somehow remained aliveP2
Holding on for themY2
Even when her own wingsO
Had forgotten how to riseH
-
While growing upB3
There was only one lessonR
Carved into her daysC3
-
You are a girlD3
So learn to tolerateJ2
No matter what happensE3
Stay calm stay quietQ2
And keep the new family happyY
-
A childhood taught in whispersG2
Of endurance over truthF3
Silence over selfQ
And peace boughtG3
At the cost of her own heartV
-
Years went byW
And the little bird grewH3
Busy fighting monstersG2
No one else could seeY
Busy raising her ownR
Tiny birdies with trembling wingsO
-
But the battles were manyY
And the anger kept piling upB3
Stone after stoneR
On a heart already tiredG
-
And on the hardest daysC3
The poor little birdiesW2
Felt the heat of stormsI3
That were never meant for themY2
Only the echoesR2
Of wounds she never asked forJ3
-
At nightK3
When her hidden monster sleptU2
The little bird finally weptU2
RepentingM
Loathing herselfQ
Again and againR
In the darkness she knew too wellL3
-
But with the morningM
The monster returnedM3
Shoving the little bird asideN3
Claiming her breathO3
Her voiceP3
Her skyW
-
And so each dayH2
She died a little moreJ3
Yet somehowQ3
Remained aliveP2
Fluttering onR
With a strengthR3
She never knew she hadS3
-
The two little birdies grewH3
Strong and braveT3
Seeing the truthF3
Standing by her sideN3
-
The little birdG
Received the giftU3
Of a lifetimeL2
Two angelsV3
Sent by the skiesH
-
The little birdG
Tried her bestW3
To heal the woundsX3
To start againR
To let her heartV
Float on joyY3
-
The two little mighty birdiesW2
Tried to pull her closeZ3
To fight the monster backA4
To remind her of the skyW
She once dreamed ofK
-
And with their gentle wings beside hersG2
She grew strongerD2
Day by dayH2
-
Even though each dayH2
She died a littleA2
She was still aliveP2
Still risingM
Because they believed she couldZ
-
Yet she cannot free herselfQ
From the monsterD2
That lives in the scars of her mindN2
To the world she seems bold and shiningM
But inside her heart tremblesG2
Weeping achingM
Ready to break openR
-
Her wings clipped again and againR
Never learned to grow backA4
And every day she diedN3
Yet somehow remained aliveP2
-
She lacks the strength to soarJ3
Each time she triesG2
Fear of the unknownR
Pulls her back into the shadowsG2
-
She does not knowR
What keeps her cagedB4
Only that the little bird withinR
Still flutters cries and moansG2
Too frail to flyW
And every day she diedN3
Yet still aliveP2
-
The two little birdiesG2
Offer her all their courageM2
But her paralyzed heartV
Refuses to moveO2
-
She debates what is rightK3
What is wrongC4
Begging for a guiding lightK3
As days months and years drift byW
And every day she diedN3
Yet still aliveP2
-
She s tired of blaming herselfQ
Tired of being buriedK2
Under the weight of confusionR
-
No hope no joyY3
No feeling left insideN3
She wonders why she still breathesG2
-
Dead in spiritQ2
Yet movingM
Just movingM
In a body that livesG2
Fully deadD4
But still aliveP2
-
She made peaceG2
With the monsterD2
Hiding deep withinR
-
But each day it strikesG2
A shadow across her chestW3
PunishingM
Every thoughtX
Of being too harshE4
On her two little birdiesG2
-
Her heart dies a littleA2
With every remembered beatF4
Yet the monster waitsG2
WhisperingM
Always waitingM
-
Alive she walkedG4
But hollowed outH4
More ghost than breathO3
More silence than songC4
-
She carried the weightJ2
Of beingM
A mother who falteredG
A sentence etchedI4
By her own trembling handsG2
-
Knowing she could never rewindN2
Her little birdies childhoodZ
Never returnR
The moments stolenR
By fearJ4
By painR
By the monster she could not tameF2
-
And so she livedK4
Dying a little each dayH2
Haunted not by the dark outsideN3
But by the shadowsG2
She thought she castL4
Upon those she loved mostM4
-
While raising her two little birdiesG2
With a monster insideN3
She cared for her aging parentsG2
Day and nightK3
-
Then came the choiceG2
Her life or theirsG2
She did not hesitateJ2
She flipped her worldX2
Gave herself daysG2
Only to hearN4
You are a girlD3
You don t belong to usG2
-
The little bird broke the mostM4
In her lifeO4
She cared for themY2
Day and nightK3
With all her moneyY
And all her mightK3
-
She begged for loveK
For her two little birdiesG2
Only to meetF4
A wall of rejectionR
Cold and absoluteP4
Echoing in the silence of her heartV
-
She saw herselfQ
In the mirrorD2
And for the first timeL2
Spotted another monster withinR
A monster growing old with ageC2
Laughing at herD2
For not seeing it beforeJ3
-
This day she decidedQ4
To break all chainsG2
To undo all locksG2
And live for herselfQ
For those who love herD2
-
Guilt weighed heavyY
To leave the old ones behindN2
Yet she whispered to herselfQ
No one who hatesG2
The pieces of her heartV
Deserves her worryY
Or her sweatR4
-
A great battle roseG2
Within her heartV
Duty on one sideN3
Her own life on the otherD2
-
Which to chooseG2
Which to let goR
The question burned through herD2
Like a quiet endless stormS4
A weight no soulT4
Should ever have to bearP
-
The little birdG
Began dying againR
Piece by fragile pieceG2
Whispering to the AlmightyY
For helpU4
-
For strengthR3
To breatheV4
For lightK3
To returnR
For wingsG2
To lift herD2
One more timeL2
-
A single drop of hopeW4
Beats faintlyY
In her wounded heartV
But confusion rules her daysG2
Tugging herD2
In every directionR
-
She prays for the worldX2
Yet fears to pray for herselfQ
Waiting for the AlmightyY
To secure her soulT4
For a lifetimeL2
-
Decades passedL4
Yet she still calls herselfQ
The little birdG
For her heart never agedB4
Only bledD4
-
Clinging to youthful dreamsG2
Grieving years she never livedK4
Wondering alwaysG2
If miracles choose certain soulsG2
-
Though she breathesG2
She longs to liveP2
To feel her spirit danceG2
Like light on an open skyW
-
And she asksG2
Through tears that fall unseenR
Is there a GodX4
Who saves little girls like meY
-
No expectations remainR
No dreams surviveP2
Only one wishY4
To mend the fracturesG2
In her broken heartV
To breathe without fearJ4
To taste freedomB2
Just onceG2
-
And in her next lifeO4
She hopes to live fullyY
So she will not be deadD4
While she is aliveP2
-
For nowQ3
She wanders like a ghostM4
A hollow shellL3
With a quiet pulseG2
No ripples stir her heartV
No spark rises to the surfaceG2
-
She asks the skyW
Why must I endureJ
This cruel fa adeZ4
Alive in nameF2
Yet hollow withinR
-
But in the very next breathO3
She reminds herselfQ
Under this vast skyW
She is still far more blessedW3
Than the sorrowR
Trying to claim her soulT4
-
To walk the earth
While feeling nothingM
To scream silentlyY
Beneath the sunR
This is the lifeO4
Of the little birdG
Who died each dayH2
Yet somehowQ3
Remained aliveP2
-
She chose at lastL4
To live for herselfQ
Not for thoseG2
Who treated herD2
Like she was nothingM
-
Her heart is scarred
For even the onesG2
Who brought her into this worldX2
Had used her for yearsG2
-
Yet she is gratefulA2
To finally see the truthF3
Even halfway through lifeO4
-
Now she knowsG2
Deep and clearJ4
She belongs to herselfQ
And only herselfQ
-
At this bend in her lifeO4
She pauses and wondersG2
Where to begin againR
-
Her hands are tiredG
Her spirit wornR
No spark left
To guide the wayH2
-
Yet in the quietQ2
A small truth lingersG2
Even without strengthR3
A new beginningM
Still waits for herD2
-
She carries so manyY
Buried dreamsG2
Now she wondersG2
Should she dig them upB3
Hold each one in her handsG2
See which still breathesG2
And which must returnR
To the quiet earth
-
The thought of diggingM
Makes her feel faint
She has shut the windowsG2
Of her dreamland
Again and againR
Letting fate decide her path
Now she stands stillA3
Waiting to seeY
What unfoldsG2

Poet's note: I am submitting my poem, 'The Battle Within: A Tale of an Ordinary Woman,' for consideration for publication. This poem is a deeply personal exploration of resilience, love, and self-discovery. It follows the journey of a woman who endures loss, rejection, and the weight of impossible expectations, ultimately finding her strength and reclaiming her life. The piece is a long-form free verse poem. It has not been published elsewhere, and I believe it aligns with your journal’s focus on emotionally resonant and human-centered poetry. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be honored to have my work featured in your publication. Sincerely, Akansha Mastey
