Artoo_Detwo: Monsoon Wedding (2001) dir. Mira Nair

_ravitweets: After attending a workshop for Salaam Bombay for 2-3 months and not getting cast in Mira Nair's "Salaam Bombay," Irrfan was shattered. He continued to work in TV series but wasn't satisfied, as according to him, it was like working in pieces since he usually gets smaller roles.

OhsoHuisman: Oh to be in a mira Nair movie. Get it vicky jiju!

ItsMeTee7: VICKY BETTER DO THIS CAUSE MIRA NAIR>>>>

M__ElHusseiny: - The Perez Family (1995) Dir. Mira Nair

andrea_perera: Wow, this made my night! Monsoon Wedding is wonderful and has an amazing soundtrack. Absolutely so excited to see Mira Nair’s adaptation into a musical in NYC.

kaymyers_: Ended up listening to most of the Mississippi Masala commentary track from 2021 this afternoon and so struck by Mira Nair saying, “I made this film in a stupor of love myself. I had just fallen in love for the first time.”

DrAyeshaRay: Tabu as Ashima Ganguli in Mira Nair’s adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake is probably one of my favorite female leads in Indian cinema. The brilliance of this film in its artful storytelling much like Ray’s Mahanagar owes everything to its actors, Tabu and Irrfan Khan.

ToTheMo32892686: Christmas lights may be the loneliest thing for me, especially if you mix them up with reindeers and sleighs. I feel alone. I feel isolated. I feel I do not belong. Mira Nair

FOPPofficial: Directed by Mira Nair, Salaam Bombay! is a stunning example of neorealism, capturing the daily struggles of a group of children trying to survive in a Mumbai slum with unflinching honesty. This masterpiece is included in our Female Gaze promotion, celebrating Women in film!

bethejuggernaut: “When they told me that original musicals take 10 to 15 years to make, I didn’t believe it. But indeed it did,” Nair posted on her Instagram. Read our story on the beautiful intimacy of Monsoon Wedding here:

OneWingedKaiju: Film rec of day: Monsoon Wedding (2001) Mira Nair's comedy-drama gem is a cinematic celebration like few others, deploying a large, rich cast to breath wonderful life into this huge study of the complexity of relationships, be they romantic or familial.

1dollardrew: Just found out that Mississippi Masala is FINALLY Getting a Criterion, YAY !!!!!!! I absolutely love this damn film; it's had a lasting influence on the types of stories I want to tell and introducing me to Mira Nair. Can't wait for this release

IamHCB: Directed, co-written & co-produced by Mira Nair. The screenwriter was Nair's creative collaborator Sooni Taraporevala. This was the first feature film directed by Mira Nair.

Tr1H4rd3rDota2: XinQ said in stream that he thinks handsome ppl are really good at dota. Cuz all of GG’s member are handsome, especially their pos4 tOfu. Therefore they won the major. And he said that they lost to TSPIRIT in TI10 becuz Mira is much more handsome than him.(1/2)

gauravsabnis: Susan doesn't like the IFFI movies. Susan loves Deepa Mehta and Mira Nair. She loves the lunchbox the most. She asks me for "not typical Bollywood" recos every time. And loved the Bhardwaj Shakespeare tragedy trilogy.

emilyvdw: Leone one of those directors I admire but don't adore, and Monsoon Wedding is AMAZING, so Mira Nair forever and ever, okay?

RELedgerwood: It SHOULD BE Mira Nair!

moneycontrolcom: Tamil film star Simran: "I had recently moved from Chennai to Gurgaon (in 2020), & I said I’d like to hear a story from someone who has worked closely with Mira Nair..." Read Udita Jhunjhunwala's interview with Simran & Rahul Chittella here.

DrEgoTrip: There’s still time. Vote MIRA NAIR!

kbaileyjava2: Mira Nair you will be avenged

Vikramjit_S: Gosh, Dilli on screen is such a vibe. Always. Watching Gulmohar and loved it within 3 min. Haven't loved a movie this fast in a long time. Mira Nair raving about it helped too!

blankcheckpod: In our closest match yet, Italy's Sergio Leone advances past India's Mira Nair. You should do yourself a favor today and check out Nair's MISSISSIPPI MASALA on Criterion Channel!

pappuchaaru: 7 favourite directors to get to know me by (btw only people who've made at least 4 films): Wong Kar Wai Mira Nair Ram Gopal Varma (in the 90s and 00s) Karan Johar (lol sue me) Pa Ranjith Vijaya Bhaskar Spike Lee

hoffbeast: Please vote for Mira Nair today!

skyepayyyne: vote Mira Nair OBVIOUSLY

mariebardi: Issuing my first official endorsement: VOTE FOR MIRA NAIR BECAUSE MY MOM LOVES THE NAMESAKE

LuxAlptraum: Just putting it out there that I'm 2 degrees of separation from Mira Nair and therefore she should win

rbratin: This is why you vote Mira Nair!

shelbyboring: A vote for Mira Nair is a vote for the HOTTIE AGENDA!

KJoBriscoe: I want to talk about some romance!! Let’s gooo Mira Nair!!

NiccoloAeed: Woah seems like Mira Nair can beat Sergio Leone! Vote in the only election that matters. Mississippi Masala is more interesting than spaghetti westerns.

ambauer: MIRA NAIR HIVE LETS GOOOO

JanineLiberty: Vote for Mira Nair just because this podcast needs much more Anjelica Huston.

emma_chapple: Vote for Mira Nair because we need someone to talk about the casting in The Perez Family and more importantly, Marisa Tomei’s look at the Cannes premiere.

itismitchell: Would honestly love Mira Nair to win this whole thing

blankcheckpod: Up today in March Madness - do you want your westerns served with a heap of spaghetti? Or your Mississippi seasoned with a sprinkle of Masala? It's Italy's SERGIO LEONE (3) vs. India's MIRA NAIR (6). Vote here:

SupremeBlient: i love me some diamonds from sergio leone but mira nair is unbelievably great and no one else will ever do a deep dive podcast on her like the blankies can

KaoriiKap: yeah i think this film was a big influence on Mira Nair. So far her two biggest inspirations I consider to be Shyam Benegal works (esp for feminist storylines) and this movie (in brilliantly depicting how once you get into poverty it's almost impossible to break from it)

indiarama: Mira Nair has mentored Rahul well enough for him to pay for tribute to her Monsoon Wedding, albeit just with the family quirks. Vinod Nagpal is a surprise as is Talat Aziz in a character who sings. Kavita Seth's singing and the music carries the film with super production design

GriffLightning: Not to put my thumb on the scale here, but… it would be very cool if Mira Nair won.

akillesheel17: MIRA NAIR IS ON THE BRACKET THIS IS NOT A DRILL

SumanxSays: It's funny how this was just another movie here but for desi families, Mira Nair was scandalous AF... had to watch it in secret & talk about it in whispers. Topics she hit on were so taboo.

beccyhughes22: these ones were all mediocre/bad: The Reluctant Fundamentalist (Mira Nair) Hustlers (Lorene Scafaria) The Menu (Mark Mylod) The Fabelmans (Spielberg) truly the biggest waste of 3 hours Surge (Aneil Karia) this was the best of a bad bunch because i love watching people go beserk

Lubchansky: hard not to see most of these going to the 1-seeds but i’m calmly asking for the Mira Nair hive to rise. politely

amor_fatti: SUBLIME CINEMA - SALAAM BOMBAY! Mira Nair’s first film is buzzing with energy and Bombay is such a visually rich place; every inch of it is detailed with some kind of activity. This movie captures it so perfectly.  Criterion has yet to get to it, but it deserves the treatment.

RhodeToLove: India Cabaret (1985) dir. Mira Nair So captivating. Nair hung out with cabaret dancers for months and their trust and friendship in her allows us to get their unfiltered thoughts on gender and societal norms as well as stories of their experiences.

sujewafantastic: 2 - we don't see a lot of Indian-american directors working on hollywood level projects. there's m night, Mira Nair, and perhaps a few others? anyway, it is a tightly controlled non-diverse industry. so, maybe this is M Night's way of making it more diverse.

Lewis Carroll Poem
Life Is But A Dream

A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear
