Who is Mark Lemon

Mark Lemon (30 November 1809, in London – 23 May 1870, in Crawley) was the founding editor of both Punch and The Field. He was also a writer of plays and verses.BiographyLemon was born in London on 30 November 1809. He was the son of Martin Lemon, a hop merchant, and Alice Collis. His parents married on 26 December 1808 at St Mary, Marylebone, London. Between 1817 and 1823, after the death of his father, Lemon lived at Church Farmhouse in Hendon, where a blue plaque commemorates him. At 15, Lemon was sent to live in Boston, Lincolnshire, with his mother's brother Thomas Collis.Mark had a natural talent for journalism and the stage, and at 26 retired from less congenial business to devote himself to the writing of plays.
