Norabenards: One word for Frank Herbert? Genius. The world building and intro of new characters in this book was brilliantly timed but the plot dragged on and on at some point I felt detached from the xters. over all 3.9⭐️ Which should I read next, The Brothers Karamazov or Anna Karenina?

bird_romona: Frank Herbert’s Dune is one of the most popular science fiction novels of all time. Published in 1965, it tells the story of a young man named Paul Atreides who is chosen by the empire to become its next leader. Dune is full of intricate and detailed worldbuilding

LuminantLux: the further we get into this whole AI-in-society / ChatGPT situation the more I deeply empathize with Frank Herbert's vision of the future in Dune where we collectively decided to outlaw and destroy every computer

brainpipeAZ: Finished reading the sixth Dune book, and that honestly felt like a definitive ending to me. I guess there's a lot of conjecture about Frank Herbert ever intending on writing a 7th book before his death, and the notes he left behind on it might not actually exist.

StuartHumphryes: My enhancement of Sir Ernest Shackleton's trans-Antarctic Expedition last year proved popular, so I've revisted Frank Hurley's surviving paget plates and enhanced another for you. This was taken by Hurley in 1915 at the New Fortuna Glacier. It is original colour (not colourised)

NotTongan: I started reading the first 2 books of the Dune franchise last week and here is my take. (Dune, 1965 - Frank Herbert)

NotTongan: Setting: For a novel written in the 1960s, Herbert’s portrayal of this futuristic interstellar society (20,000 years from now on planet Arrakis) is mind blowing. While men in the 60s were building houses, Frank Herbert was building planets.

NotTongan: Frank Herbert incorporates a lot of philosophical aspects and lessons into the story— Pragmatism, self reliance, the importance of your humanity and conscious decision making through trial and error. Who knew humans were cool huh?

Andrew Lang Poem
Ballade Of The Midnight Forest
 by Andrew Lang

Still sing the mocking fairies, as of old,
Beneath the shade of thorn and holly-tree;
The west wind breathes upon them, pure and cold,
And wolves still dread Diana roaming free
In secret woodland with her company.
'Tis thought the peasants' hovels know her rite
When now the wolds are bathed in silver light,
And first the moonrise breaks the dusky grey,
...
