Written In A Friend's Album Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMLD

Trust not Hope's illusive rayA
Trust not Joy's deceitful smilesB
Oft they reckless youth betrayA
With their bland seductive wilesB
-
I have proved them all alasC
Transient as the hues of eveD
Meteor like they quickly passC
Through the bosoms they deceiveD
-
Let not Love thy prospects gildE
Soon they will be clouded o'erF
And the budding heart once chilledE
It can brightly bloom no moreG
-
Slumber not in Pleasure's beamH
It may sparkle for a whileI
But 'tis transient as a dreamH
Faithless as a foeman's smileI
-
There's a light that's brighter farJ
Soothes the soul by anguish rivenK
'Tis Religion's guiding starJ
Glittering on the verge of HeavenK
-
Oh this beam divine is worthL
All the charm that life can giveM
'Tis not false as things of earthL
Trust it then 'twill ne'er deceiveD
