The Morn And Eve Of Life. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD BBEFGGHI JJKKHHLL MMAANNOO

So soft Time's plumage in life's budding springA
We rarely note the flutter of his wingA
The untutored heart from pain and sadness freeB
Beats high with hope and joy and ecstasyB
And the fond bosoms of confiding youthC
Believe their fairy world a world of truthC
The thorn is young upon the rose's stemD
They heed it not it has no wound for themD
-
While yet the heart is new to miseryB
There is a gloss on everything we seeB
There is a freshness which returns no moreE
When fades the morn of life that soon is o'erF
A warmth of feeling ardency of joyG
Delight almost exempt from an alloyG
A zest for pleasure fearlessness of painH
That we are destined ne'er to know againI
-
And what succeeds this era joyous brightJ
Is it a cloudless eve or starless nightJ
To those who're busied in life's brilliant dawnK
With gathering flowers that bloom when spring is goneK
And ere their morning sun begins to waneH
Add many a link to fond affection's chainH
To Heaven's supreme behest have meekly bowedL
'Twill prove indeed an eve without a cloudL
-
What though the brilliancy and sheen of dayM
With youthful hours have faded all awayM
What though the fresh and roseate bloom of springA
A fragrance in our path no more shall flingA
Yet there's a foretaste pure of joys divineN
A quiet holy calm in life's declineN
A moonlight of the soul in mercy givenO
To light the pilgrim to the gates of HeavenO
