Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDAEA FGAGHIEI JKLKMAEA ENENOAEA DHMHMAEA

Fare thee well we've no wish to detain theeA
For the loved ones are bidding thee comeB
And we know a bright welcome awaits theeA
In the smiles and the sunshine of homeC
Thou art safe on the crest of the billowD
And safe in the depths of the seaA
For the God we have worshipped togetherE
Is Almighty and careth for theeA
-
And when in the home of thy fathersF
Thy fervent petition shall riseG
For the loved who are circling around theeA
The joy and delight of thine eyesG
Oh then for the weak and the falteringH
Should a prayer as sweet incense ascendI
To the God we have worshipped togetherE
Remember thy far distant friendI
-
We miss the calm light of thy spiritJ
We miss thy encouraging smileK
But we bless the unslumbering ShepherdL
Who sent thee to cheer us awhileK
The light which burned brightly among usM
We rejoiced for a season to seeA
For the God we have worshipped togetherE
Gave a halo of glory to theeA
-
But didst thou not point to anotherE
A brighter an unsetting sunN
For thou preached not thyself to us brotherE
But Jesus the Crucified OneN
May He be thy rock and thy refugeO
In Him thy strong confidence beA
For the God we have worshipped togetherE
Still loveth and careth for theeA
-
Oh mayst thou abide 'neath the shadowD
Of Immanuel's sheltering wingH
And continue proclaiming the goodnessM
Of Zion's all glorious KingH
Till the sun shall be turned into darknessM
The moon in obscurity beA
And the God we have worshipped togetherE
Be a light everlasting to theeA
