He muttered in his dying breathB
It is not patriotism nowC
Prompts you to break your friendship's vowC
Quoth Brutus as he stabbed againD
The greatest of his countrymenE
You're in this fixF
Through politicsF

As on his path Columbus spedG
A sailor to the great man saidG
Without a break without a bendH
The broad Atlantic has no endH
And to the sailor at his sideI
'Tis rumored that great man repliedI
I guess I knowJ
You go belowJ

The snow fell fast on Russia's soilK
The soldiers wearied with their toilK
Cried 'Tis not possible that weL
Our native France again shall seeL
Stern ever in the face of deathB
Napoleon said beneath his breathB
Go take a walkM
I hate such talkM

A cherry tree lay on the groundN
On George's body pa did poundN
But pa George cried It seems to meL
That you are wrong dis ain't your treeL
The old man sadly shook his headG
And to his wayward son he saidG
Don't lie to meL
I know my treeL

When Dewey on his flagship sailedO
The Spaniards never even quailedO
Oh it ain't possible said theyP
For him to reach Manila BayP
But Dewey merely smiled in gleeL
It isn't possible quoth heL
Why hully geeL
Just wait and seeL

Thus onward as through life we goJ
Amid the pomp and glare and showJ
We oft some proverb misconstrueR
And mutter boldly 'Tis not trueR
But in their calm majestic wayP
