O'dowd Of The Jefferson Club Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE FFGGHIJJKK

A maddened horse comes down the streetA
With waving mane and flying feetA
The crowd scatters in every directionB
It looks like a fight at a city electionB
A big policeman waves his handsC
And the air is full of vague commandsC
While across the street a retail grocerD
Shrieks to his child as the horse draws closerD
When suddenly out of the mad hubbubE
Steps Jimmie O'Dowd of the Jefferson ClubE
-
Every man there holds his breathF
To stop the horse means sudden deathF
But quick as a flashG
O'Dowd makes a dashG
With all his might and the horse's maneH
He brings the old plug to a halt againI
Then every man there doffs his hatJ
And cries Well what do you think of thatJ
Never since the days of NeroK
Has there been a greater heroK
