Your Country Needs You Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE AAFFGGHHEE BBIIJKLLFF MMNNAAOOAA

The country needs a man like youA
It has a task for you to doA
It has a job for you to faceB
Somewhere for you it has a placeB
Not all the slackers dodge the workC
Of service where the cannon lurkC
Not all the slackers on life's stageD
Are boys of military ageD
The old the youthful and unfitE
Must also do their little bitE
-
The country needs a man like youA
'Twill suffer if you prove untrueA
What though you cannot bear a gunF
That isn't all that's to be doneF
There are a thousand other waysG
To serve your country through the daysG
Of trial and the nights of stormH
You need not wear a uniformH
Or with the men in council sitE
To serve the Flag and do your bitE
-
Somewhere for you there is a placeB
Somewhere you have a task to faceB
There's none so helpless or so frailI
That cannot when our foes assailI
In some way help our common causeJ
And be deserving of applauseK
Behind the Flag we all must beL
Each at his post awake to seeL
That in so far as he has strivenF
His best was to his country givenF
-
You can be patient brave and strongM
And not complain when plans go wrongM
You can be cheerful at your toilN
Or till perhaps some patch of soilN
You can encourage others whoA
Have heavier greater tasks to doA
You can be loyal not in creedO
Alone but in each thought and deedO
You can make sacrifices tooA
The country needs a man like youA
