When Sorrow Comes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF GGHHII DDJJKK AALLMM

When sorrow comes as come it mustA
In God a man must place his trustA
There is no power in mortal speechB
The anguish of his soul to reachB
No voice however sweet and lowC
Can comfort him or ease the blowC
-
He cannot from his fellow menD
Take strength that will sustain him thenD
With all that kindly hands will doE
And all that love may offer tooE
He must believe throughout the testF
That God has willed it for the bestF
-
We who would be his friends are dumbG
Words from our lips but feebly comeG
We feel as we extend our handsH
That one Power only understandsH
And truly knows the reason whyI
So beautiful a soul must dieI
-
We realize how helpless thenD
Are all the gifts of mortal menD
No words which we have power to sayJ
Can take the sting of grief awayJ
That Power which marks the sparrow's fallK
Must comfort and sustain us allK
-
When sorrow comes as come it mustA
In God a man must place his trustA
With all the wealth which he may ownL
He cannot meet the test aloneL
And only he may stand sereneM
Who has a faith on which to leanM
