Wait Till Your Pa Comes Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDD EEFFG HHIIJJ GGKKLL ABIIJJ

'Wait till your Pa comes home ' Oh dearA
What a dreadful threat for a boy to hearB
Yet never a boy of three or fourC
But has heard it a thousand times or moreC
'Wait till your Pa comes home my ladD
And see what you'll get for being badD
-
'Wait till your Pa comes home you scampE
You've soiled the walls with your fingers dampE
You've tracked the floor with your muddy feetF
And fought with the boy across the streetF
You've torn your clothes and you look a sightG
But wait till your Pa comes home to night '-
-
Now since I'm the Pa of that daily threatH
Which paints me as black as a thing of jetH
I rise in protest right here to sayI
I won't be used in so fierce a wayI
No child of mine in the evening gloamJ
Shall be afraid of my coming homeJ
-
I want him waiting for me at nightG
With eyes that glisten with real delightG
When it's right that punished my boy should beK
I don't want the job postponed for meK
I want to come home to a round of joyL
And not to frighten a little boyL
-
'Wait till your Pa comes home ' Oh dearA
What a dreadful threat for a boy to hearB
Yet that is ever his Mother's wayI
Of saving herself from a bitter dayI
And well she knows in the evening gloamJ
He won't be hurt when his Pa comes homeJ
