To The Men At Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH CICIJKJK ALALMNMN

No war is won by cannon fire aloneA
The soldier bears the grim and dreary roleB
He dies to serve the Flag that he has knownA
His duty is to gain the distant goalB
But if the toiler in his homeland fairC
Falter in faith and shrink from every testD
If he be not on duty ever thereC
Lost to the cause is every soldier's bestD
-
The men at home the toiler in the shopE
The keen eyed watcher of the spinning drillF
Hear no command to vault the trench's topE
They know not what it is to die or killF
And yet they must be brave and constant tooG
Upon them lies their precious country's fateH
They also serve the Flag as soldiers doG
'Tis theirs to make a nation's army greatH
-
You hold your country's honor in your careC
Her glory you shall help to make or marI
For they who now her uniforms must wearC
Can be no braver soldiers than you areI
From day to day in big and little deedsJ
At bench or lathe or desk or stretch of soilK
You are the man your country sorely needsJ
Will you not give to her your finest toilK
-
No war is won by cannon fire aloneA
The men at home must also share the fightL
By what they are a nation's strength is shownA
The army but reflects their love of rightL
Will you not help to hold our battle lineM
Will you not give the fullest of your powersN
In sacrifice and service that is fineM
That victory shall speedily be oursN
