The Spendthrift Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EFGGCCHH

HE died a poor man so they sayA
Few were the dollars stored awayA
By him while he lived and yetB
His memory I'll not forgetB
A spendthrift True but not for selfC
He scattered thus his hard earned pelfC
Not that he might in splendor roamD
But for the ones he loved at homeD
-
A spendthrift That he was for thoseE
Who weeping watched his eyelids closeF
For them he toiled for them he spentG
His pittance and was well contentG
The best in life to them he gaveC
Denied them nothing just to saveC
For those at home his coin he blewH
I would the world more spendthrifts knewH
