| But for the ones he loved at home | D |

| Who weeping watched his eyelids close | F |
| For them he toiled for them he spent | G |
| His pittance and was well content | G |
| The best in life to them he gave | C |
| Denied them nothing just to save | C |
| For those at home his coin he blew | H |
| I would the world more spendthrifts knew | H |
