The Songs Of Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EBEBFGHG IJIJKLKL MNMNOBOB

The moon swings low in the sky aboveA
And the twinkling stars shine brightB
And a mother sings to her baby loveA
Those wonderful songs of nightB
Those wonderful songs of sugar plum treesC
And the fields where the fairies playD
Of cockle shell boats on golden seasC
That never are seen by dayD
-
It is by low time and she sweetly humsE
Those wonderful songs of nightB
Of the blare of trumpets and sound of drumsE
When the little tin soldiers fightB
She sings of a comical candy dogF
And the gingerbread man who standsG
By the side of a blinking cooky frogH
Without any arms or handsG
-
And the moonbeams dance on the parlor floorI
And a ship sets out to seaJ
And a baby sails for the golden shoreI
In search of the sugar plum treeJ
She's off to the cave of the Teddy BearK
And the haunts of the fairies kindL
Where never an ache or a pain or careK
Shall trouble her baby mindL
-
Oh sweet is the smile on the baby's faceM
As she softly sinks to restN
For where in the world is so fine a placeM
To sleep as a mother's breastN
And if ever a song can reach the skiesO
The angels must find delightB
In hearing a mother's lullabiesO
Those wonderful songs of nightB
