The Reason For Work Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDECCE FFGAAGHHICCI JJKLLKMMNOON

Some struggle hard for worldly fameA
Some toil to have an honored nameA
And some have great ambitionB
A few there are who strive that theyC
May save the heathen far awayC
Which is a noble missionB
Still others work for riches vastD
To have enough when youth is pastD
For charitable givingE
Yet millions of us work by dayC
And this our object is alwayC
To make a decent livingE
-
This is the secret of our toilF
For this we burn the midnight oilF
For this the rhymester singsG
'T is want that spurs us on not fameA
'T is hunger not a world wide nameA
The need of worldly thingsG
Though fame may come in after yearsH
And in his ears may ring the cheersH
And plaudits of the crowdI
'T is not for them man toils todayC
But that his wife and babies mayC
Be decently endowedI
-
That he may have enough to wearJ
Enough to eat enough to spareJ
To give to those in needK
Is after all man's purpose trueL
'T is all the good man hopes to doL
For more than that is greedK
The greatest things are done by thoseM
Who face privation and its woesM
And seek to climb above themN
The men who rise to fame you'll findO
Take thought of first and keep in mindO
The needs of those who love themN
