The Little Woman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI JKJKLMLM NGNGOPOP QRQRSTST

The little woman to her I bowA
And doff my hat as I pass her byB
I reverence the furrows that mark her browA
And the sparkling love light in her eyeB
The little woman who stays at homeC
And makes no bid for the world's applauseD
Who never sighs for a chance to roamC
But toils all day in a grander causeE
-
The little woman who seems so weakF
Yet bears her burdens day by dayG
And no one has ever heard her speakF
In a bitter or loud complaining wayG
She sings a snatch of a merry songH
As she toils in her home from morn to nightI
Her work is hard and the hours are longH
But the little woman's heart is lightI
-
A slave to love is that woman smallJ
And yearly her burdens heavier growK
But somehow she seems to bear them allJ
As the deep'ning lines in her white cheeks showK
Her children all have a mother's careL
Her home the touch of a good wife knowsM
No burden's too heavy for her to bearL
But patiently doing her best she goesM
-
The little woman may God be kindN
To her wherever she dwells to dayG
The little woman who seems to findN
Her joy in toiling along life's wayG
May God bring peace to her work worn breastO
And joy to her mother heart at lastP
May love be hers when it's time to restO
And the roughest part of the road is passedP
-
The little woman how oft it seemsQ
God chooses her for the mother's partR
And many a grown up sits and dreamsQ
To day of her with an aching heartR
For he knows well how she toiled for himS
And he sees it now that it is too lateT
And often his eyes with tears grow dimS
For the little woman whose strength was greatT
