The Little Country Bus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDEFFE AAGHHGIIAJJA KKLMMLNNOPPO FFKEEKBBQRRQThere's no lock upon your door | A |
And the polish that you wore | A |
In the years ago when you were bright and new | B |
Now has lost its splendid shine | C |
And your driver's bending spine | C |
Shows that he's been getting old along with you | B |
You are slipping fast I see | D |
So indeed old bus is he | D |
But you rattle and you bang along the street | E |
And I wonder as you go | F |
What of joy or what of woe | F |
You'll discover when the limited you meet | E |
- | |
Who is coming home once more | A |
To his father's welcome door | A |
Is it failure or success that he will bring | G |
Is a daughter slipping back | H |
From the city's cruel track | H |
For the lullaby that mother used to sing | G |
Is she happy Is she sad | I |
For I know old bus you've had | I |
Both your passengers a thousand times or more | A |
And old driver you can't hide | J |
Just how many times you've sighed | J |
As you've opened or have shut that shaky door | A |
- | |
You have seen them go away | K |
Full of strength and hope and gay | K |
You have seen them start as children fine and then | L |
When the limited you've met | M |
Both your kindly eyes were wet | M |
As you saw them back as women and as men | L |
You have read the tale of life | N |
Read the heartache and the strife | N |
Read the sorrows that we'd better not discuss | O |
Read the joy of splendid things | P |
And the pain that failure brings | P |
As you've carried all that's human in your bus | O |
- | |
So I wonder as you go | F |
What you'll find of joy or woe | F |
When the limited pulls in on time today | K |
What of conquest or defeat | E |
Will it be your lot to meet | E |
And to welcome in your gentle kindly way | K |
Both your shaky bus and you | B |
With life's toil are nearly through | B |
Soon your soul upon a journey far will roam | Q |
And I like to think you'll ask | R |
God to let it be your task | R |
To welcome all the children coming home | Q |
