Little women little menA
Childhood never comes againA
Live it gaily while you mayB
Give your baby souls to playB
March to sound of stick and panC
In your paper hats and trampD
just as bravely as you canC
To your pleasant little campD
Wooden sword and wooden gunE
Make a battle splendid funE
Fine the victories you winF
Dimpled cheek and dimpled chinF
Little women little menA
Hearts are light when years are tenA
Eyes are bright and cheeks are redG
When life's cares lie all aheadG
Drums make merry music whenA
They are leading children outH
Trumpet calls are cheerful thenA
Glorious is the battle shoutH
Little soldiers single fileI
Uniformed in grin and smileI
Conquer every foe they meetJ
Up and down the gentle streetJ
Little women little menA
Would that youth could come againA
Would that I might fall in lineK
As a little boy of nineK
But with broomstick for a gunE
And with paper hat that IL
Bravely wore back there for funE
Never more may I defyL
Foes that deep in ambush kneelM
Now my warfare's grim and realM
I that once was brave and boldN
Now am battered bruised and oldN
Little women little menA
Planning to attack my denA
Little do you know the joyO
That you give a worn out boyO
As he hears your gentle feetJ
Pitter patting in the hallP
Gladly does he wait to meetJ
Conquest by a troop so smallP
Dimpled cheek and dimpled chinF
You have but to smile to winF
Come and take him where he staysQ
Dreaming of his by gone daysQ
