The Green Of Michigan Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHDHE IJIJKDKE LALAMDME NONOADAE

I'VE seen the Rockies in the westA
I've seen the canyons wild and grimB
I've seen the prairies golden dressedA
And California's hedges primB
I've seen the Kansas corn fields blowC
I've seen them wearing summer's tanD
But there's no place on earth can showC
Such glorious green as MichiganE
-
I've seen the blue of foreign skiesF
I've seen old England's shady lanesG
The famous spots men advertiseF
The mountains and the rolling plainsG
But wearily my eyes have turnedH
From scenes that others gayly scanD
And secretly my soul has yearnedH
To see the green of MichiganE
-
I've traveled in a Pullman carI
And watched the landscape slipping byJ
But always though I've wandered farI
To fairer charms my mind would flyJ
And when at last the moving scenesK
Seem painted by some Master ManD
With all the cool and restful greensK
I know I'm back in MichiganE
-
Here Mother Nature never tiresL
And droops her head upon her breastA
Beneath the scorching summer firesL
She keeps her youth and looks her bestA
When other states have lost the hueM
They had when first the spring beganD
'Tis like refreshing drink to viewM
The splendid green of MichiganE
-
Go search for charms on foreign shoresN
Enthuse of wonders as you roamO
I choose the splendors at our doorsN
I sing the rich delights of homeO
The trees in garb of glory dressedA
The fertile fields that round us spanD
I sing the charm that thrills me bestA
The glorious green of MichiganE
