The Fisherman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDCD EFGFGF HIHIHI JKJKJ LALALA

Along a stream that raced and ranA
Through tangled trees and over stonesB
That long had heard the pipes o' PanA
And shared the joys that nature ownsB
I met a fellow fishermanA
Who greeted me in cheerful tonesB
-
The lines of care were on his faceC
I guessed that he had buried deadD
Had run for gold full many a raceC
And kept great problems in his headD
But in that gentle resting placeC
No word of wealth or fame he saidD
-
He showed me trout that he had caughtE
And praised the larger ones of mineF
Told me how that big beauty foughtG
And almost broke his silken lineF
Spoke of the trees and sky and thoughtG
Them proof of life and power divineF
-
There man to man we talked of treesH
And birds as people talk of menI
Discussed the busy ways of beesH
Wondered what lies beyond our kenI
Where is the land no mortal seesH
And shall we come this way againI
-
'Out here ' he told me with a smileJ
'Away from all the city's shamK
The strife for splendor and for styleJ
The ticker and the telegramK
I come for just a little whileJ
To be exactly as I am '-
-
Foes think the bad in him they've guessedL
And prate about the wrong they scanA
Friends that have seen him at his bestL
Believe they know his every planA
I know him better than the restL
I know him as a fishermanA
