The Dream Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE FFGGHHIIJJ KKLLMMHHNNHHI LIKE the dream days best of all | A |
The hollyhocks against the wall | A |
The rambler roses blushing red | B |
The blue skies bending overhead | B |
With just enough of summer breeze | C |
To whisper in the leafy trees | C |
When lazily the plow boys plod | D |
And lazily the blossoms nod | D |
And everything about me seems | E |
Wrapt up somehow in pleasant dreams | E |
- | |
I like to lie full length and flat | F |
And shade my eyes with my old hat | F |
Building out yonder in the skies | G |
Air castles grand whose towers rise | G |
Higher than summer swallows fly | H |
The castles of sweet by and by | H |
Forgetting care and shirking toil | I |
Forgetting lust for fame and spoil | I |
Just dreaming dreams that won't come true | J |
But living as the flowers do | J |
- | |
I like the dream days best for then | K |
The world 's in tune with lazy men | K |
The very flowers droop and sway | L |
In such a restful lazy way | L |
As though they too would like to be | M |
Stretched out beneath this tree with me | M |
And fleecy snow white clouds float by | H |
As though no part of earth or sky | H |
And far off seem the busy marts | N |
Where gather shrewd and sordid hearts | N |
Just roses hollyhocks and I | H |
Dreaming while Father Time goes by | H |
