Wronged him by silence for in haste | B |
I let a glad thought go to waste | B |

That deed of his had pleased me so | D |
But oh I failed to let him see | E |

I cheated him of words of praise | F |
Which would have cheered his troubled days | F |
In this a faithful friend I wronged | G |
By keeping what to him belonged | G |

The praise was his by right to hear | H |
To him belonged my word of cheer | I |
In silence though from him I turned | J |
And cheated him of what he'd earned | J |
