Story-time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI EJEJKLKL MNMNOPOP FEFEQJQJ

'TELL us a story ' comes the cryA
From little lips when nights are coldB
And in the grate the flames leap highA
'Tell us a tale of pirates boldB
Or fairies hiding in the glenC
Or of a ship that's wrecked at sea 'D
I fill my pipe and there and thenC
Gather the children round my kneeE
-
I give them all a role to playF
No longer are they youngsters smallG
And I their daddy turning grayF
We are adventurers one and allG
We journey forth as Robin HoodH
In search of treasure or to doI
Some deed of daring or of goodH
Our hearts are ever brave and trueI
-
We take a solemn oath to beE
Defenders of the starry flagJ
We brave the winter's stormy seaE
Or climb the rugged mountain cragJ
To battle to the death with thoseK
Who would defame our native landL
We pitch our camp among the snowsK
Or in the tropics burning sandL
-
We rescue maidens young and fairM
Held captive long in prison towersN
We slay the villain in his lairM
For we're possessed of magic powersN
And though we desperately fightO
When by our foes we are besetP
We always triumph for the rightO
We have not lost a battle yetP
-
It matters not how far we strayF
Nor where our battle lines may beE
We never get so far awayF
That we must spend a night at seaE
It matters not how high we climbQ
How many foes our pathway blockJ
We always conquer just in timeQ
To go to bed at o'clockJ
