Somebody needs a new bow for her hair | A |
And never the wanting grows less | B |
Oh this is the reason I labor each day | C |
And this is the joy of my tasks | D |
That deep in the envelope holding my pay | C |
Is something that somebody asks | D |
I could go begging for water and bread | E |
And travel the highways of ease | F |
But somebody wants a roof over his head | E |
And stockings to cover his knees | F |
I could go shirking the duties of life | G |
And laugh when necessity pleads | H |
But rather I stand to the toil and the strife | G |
To furnish what somebody needs | H |
Somebody wants what I've strength to supply | I |
And somebody's waiting for me | J |
To come home to night with money to buy | I |
Her bread and her cake and her tea | J |
And as I am strong so her laughter will ring | K |
And as I am true she will smile | L |
It's the somebody else of the toiler or king | K |
That makes all the struggle worth while | L |
Somebody needs all the courage I own | M |
And somebody's trust is in me | J |
For never a man who can go it alone | M |
Whatever his station may be | J |
So I stand to my task and I stand to my care | A |
And struggle to come to success | B |
For the ribbons to tie up somebody's hair | A |
And my somebody's pretty new dress | B |
