The labor of my heart and hand | A |
If good then happy I shall be | C |
If not contented I'll abide | D |
And though the prize is not for me | C |
My joy shall be in having tried | D |

No cause for me to sit and sigh | F |
Although the laurel wreath I miss | G |
My eyes shall smiling be and dry | F |
No vain excuses shall I make | H |
For failing and no vain regret | I |
But bravely judgment I shall take | H |
And say 'A better man I've met ' | - |

Contented for right well I know | J |
