Raisin Pie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDECECFCF CGHGCIJIAFHF IKHKILMLNICIThere's a heap of pent up goodness | A |
in the yellow bantam corn | B |
And I sort o' like to linger | C |
round a berry patch at morn | B |
Oh the Lord has set our table | D |
with a stock o' things to eat | E |
An' there's just enough o' bitter | C |
in the blend to cut the sweet | E |
But I run the whole list over | C |
an' it seems somehow that I | F |
Find the keenest sort o' pleasure | C |
in a chunk o' raisin pie | F |
- | |
There are pies that start the water | C |
circulatin' in the mouth | G |
There are pies that wear the flavor of | H |
the warm an' sunny south | G |
Some with oriental spices spur | C |
the drowsy appetite | I |
An' just fill a fellow's being | J |
with a thrill o' real delight | I |
But for downright solid goodness | A |
that comes drippin' from the sky | F |
There is nothing quite the equal of | H |
a chunk o' raisin pie | F |
- | |
I'm admittin' tastes are diff'runt | I |
I'm not settin' up myself | K |
As the judge an' final critic of | H |
the good things on the shelf | K |
I'm sort o' payin' tribute | I |
to a simple joy on earth | L |
Sort o' feebly testifyin' to its | M |
lasting charm an' worth | L |
An' I'll hold to this conclusion | N |
till it comes my time to die | I |
That there's no dessert that's finer | C |
than a chunk o' raisin pie | I |
