Raisin Pie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDECECFCF CGHGCIJIAFHF IKHKILMLNICI

There's a heap of pent up goodnessA
in the yellow bantam cornB
And I sort o' like to lingerC
round a berry patch at mornB
Oh the Lord has set our tableD
with a stock o' things to eatE
An' there's just enough o' bitterC
in the blend to cut the sweetE
But I run the whole list overC
an' it seems somehow that IF
Find the keenest sort o' pleasureC
in a chunk o' raisin pieF
-
There are pies that start the waterC
circulatin' in the mouthG
There are pies that wear the flavor ofH
the warm an' sunny southG
Some with oriental spices spurC
the drowsy appetiteI
An' just fill a fellow's beingJ
with a thrill o' real delightI
But for downright solid goodnessA
that comes drippin' from the skyF
There is nothing quite the equal ofH
a chunk o' raisin pieF
-
I'm admittin' tastes are diff'runtI
I'm not settin' up myselfK
As the judge an' final critic ofH
the good things on the shelfK
I'm sort o' payin' tributeI
to a simple joy on earthL
Sort o' feebly testifyin' to itsM
lasting charm an' worthL
An' I'll hold to this conclusionN
till it comes my time to dieI
That there's no dessert that's finerC
than a chunk o' raisin pieI
