Promotion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFG HHGGGGIIJJJJ JJKKJJLLGGMM

Promotion comes to him who sticksA
Unto his work and never kicksA
Who watches neither clock nor sunB
To tell him when his task is doneB
Who toils not by a stated chartC
Defining to a jot his partC
But gladly does a little moreD
Than he's remunerated forD
The man in factory or shopE
Who rises quickly to the topE
Is he who gives what can't be boughtF
Intelligent and careful thoughtG
-
No one can say just when beginsH
The service that promotion winsH
Or when it ends 'tis not dennedG
By certain hours or any kindG
Of system that has been devisedG
Merit cannot be systemizedG
It is at work when it's at playI
It serves each minute of the dayI
'Tis always at its post to seeJ
New ways of help and use to beJ
Merit from duty never slinksJ
Its cardinal virtue is it thinksJ
-
Promotion comes to him who triesJ
Not solely for a selfish prizeJ
But day by day and year by yearK
Holds his employer's interests dearK
Who measures not by what he earnsJ
The sum of labor he returnsJ
Nor counts his day of toiling throughL
Till he's done all that he can doL
His strength is not of muscle bredG
But of the heart and of the headG
The man who would the top attainM
Must demonstrate he has a brainM
