Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEF BBGGDDHHDD AAIIJJKKDD LLBBAAMMBB

Sometimes at the table whenA
He gets misbehavin' thenA
Mother calls across to meB
'Look at him now Don't you seeB
What he's doin' sprawlin ' thereC
Make him sit up in his chairC
Don't you see the messy wayD
That he's eating ' An' I sayD
'No He seems all right just nowE
What's he doing anyhow 'F
-
Mother placed him there by meB
An' she thinks I ought to seeB
Every time he breaks the lawsG
An' correct him just becauseG
There will come a time some dayD
When he mustn't act that wayD
But I can't be all alongH
Scoldin' him for doin' wrongH
So if something goes astrayD
I jus' look the other wayD
-
Mother tells me now an' thenA
I'm the easiest o' menA
An' in dealin' with the ladI
I will never see the badI
That he does an' I supposeJ
Mother's right for Mother knowsJ
But I'd hate to feel that I'mK
Here to scold him all the timeK
Little faults might spoil the dayD
So I look the other wayD
-
Look the other way an' tryL
Not to let him catch my eyeL
Knowin' all the time that heB
Doesn't mean so bad to beB
Knowin' too that now an' thenA
I am not the best o' menA
Hopin' too the times I fallM
That the Father of us allM
Lovin' watchin' over meB
Will pretend He doesn't seeB
