On A Certain Religious Argument Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL

Argue it pro and con as you willA
And flout each other with wordsB
But the rose will bloom and the summer stillA
Will bring us the song of birdsB
-
How was He born who came to earthC
With the Godlight in His eyesD
Wrangle and quarrel about His birthC
And yet you shall not be wiseD
-
And what does it matter The clover blowsE
And the rose blooms on the treeF
And only the God in heaven knowsE
How these things come to beF
-
You take the flower though you cannot sayG
Why this is red or whiteH
You accept the warmth of the sun by dayG
And the light of the stars by nightH
-
You joy in a thousand mysteriesI
Which your wisdom can't explainJ
The green of the grass and the rolling seasI
And the gold of the harvest grainJ
-
So why do you bother your heads at allK
And why does your faith grow dimL
You take the flower on the garden wallK
So why will you not take HimL
