Names And Faces Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI JK KLHLH MNMNJOJO PIPIQEQE

I do not ask a store of wealthA
Nor special gift of powerB
I hope always for strength and healthA
To brave each troubled hourB
But life would be distinctly goodC
However low my place isD
Had I a memory that couldC
Remember names and facesE
-
I am not troubled by the factF
That common skill is mineG
I care not that my life has lackedF
The glory of the fineG
But oh when someone speaks to meH
My cheeks grow red with shameI
Because I'm sure that he must seeH
That I have lost his nameI
-
Embarrassment where'er I goJ
Pursues me night and dayK
I hear some good friend's glad 'Hello '-
And stop a word to sayK
His voice melodiously may ringL
But that's all lost on meH
For all the time I'm wonderingL
Whoever can he beH
-
I envy no man's talent rareM
Save his who can repeatN
The names of men no matter whereM
It is they chance to meetN
For he escapes the bitter blowJ
The sorrow and regretO
Of greeting friends he ought to knowJ
As though they'd never metO
-
I do not ask a store of goldP
High station here or fameI
I have no burning wish to holdP
The popular acclaimI
Life's lanes I'd gladly journey throughQ
Nor mind the stony placesE
Could I but do as others doQ
And know men's names and facesE
