Lonely Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE AFA GHGH AIAIJKJK ALAMNENEThe walls have seemed to say to me | A |
Where have the sticky fingers gone | B |
That always found their way to me | A |
And left their prints to gaze upon | C |
The halls have worn a gloomy air | D |
And seemed like tunnels dark and black | E |
And it has seemed that every chair | D |
Has asked me when they're coming back | E |
- | |
The stairs have seemed to speak to me | A |
Each night as I have climbed alone | F |
And pitifully squeak to me | A |
'Where have the little people flown ' | - |
The beds all smooth and sternly kept | G |
Have said with faces drawn and white | H |
Where are the curly heads that slept | G |
On us so sweetly every night | H |
- | |
The untouched toys have stared at me | A |
As if to say the days are long | I |
And all their dolls have glared at me | A |
As though accusing me of wrong | I |
And every rug so straight and stiff | J |
Has seemed to sigh for rumpling feet | K |
And worn a sorry look as if | J |
It missed the mud tracks of the street | K |
- | |
The bird has twittered low to me | A |
A sort of solemn sad refrain | L |
As though he tried to show to me | A |
He wishes they were near again | M |
But soon the walls and halls and chairs | N |
Will know once more the charm they lack | E |
And little feet will race the stairs | N |
They've sent me word they're coming back | E |
