Just Folks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDDEEFFGGHH AIICJJGGJJJJCC CKKCJJGGGGEELLWe're queer folks here | A |
We'll talk about the weather | B |
The good times we have had together | B |
The good times near | C |
The roses buddin' an' the bees | D |
Once more upon their nectar sprees | D |
The scarlet fever scare an' who | E |
Came mighty near not pullin' through | E |
An' who had light attacks an' all | F |
The things that int'rest big or small | F |
But here you'll never hear of sinnin' | G |
Or any scandal that's beginnin' | G |
We've got too many other labors | H |
To scatter tales that harm our neighbors | H |
- | |
We're strange folks here | A |
We're tryin' to be cheerful | I |
An' keep this home from gettin' tearful | I |
We hold it dear | C |
Too dear for pettiness an' meanness | J |
An' nasty tales of men's uncleanness | J |
Here you shall come to joyous smilin' | G |
Secure from hate an' harsh revilin' | G |
Here where the wood fire brightly blazes | J |
You'll hear from us our neighbor's praises | J |
Here that they'll never grow to doubt us | J |
We keep our friends always about us | J |
An' here though storms outside may pelter | C |
Is refuge for our friends an' shelter | C |
- | |
We've one rule here | C |
An' that is to be pleasant | K |
The folks we know are always present | K |
Or very near | C |
An' though they dwell in many places | J |
We think we're talkin' to their faces | J |
An' that keeps us from only seein' | G |
The faults in any human bein' | G |
An' checks our tongues when they'd go trailin' | G |
Into the mire of mortal failin' | G |
Flaws aren't so big when folks are near you | E |
You don't talk mean when they can hear you | E |
An' so no scandal here is started | L |
Because from friends we're never parted | L |
