If You And I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD AEAEFDFD GHGHIDID

IF you would smile a little moreA
And I would kinder beB
If you would stop to think beforeA
You speak of faults you seeB
If I would show more patience tooC
With all with whom I'm hurledD
Then I would help and so would youC
To make a better worldD
-
If you would cheer your neighbor moreA
And I'd encourage mineE
If you would linger at his doorA
To say his work is fineE
And I would stop to help him whenF
His lips in frowns are curledD
Both you and I'd be helping thenF
To make a better worldD
-
But just as long as you keep stillG
And plod your selfish wayH
And I rush on and heedless killG
The kind words I could sayH
While you and I refuse to smileI
And keep our gay flags furledD
Someone will grumble all the whileI
That it's a gloomy worldD
