rentA
We wanted fresher cleaner wallsB
And bigger rooms and wider hallsB
And open plumbing and the domeC
That made the fashionable homeC
-
But now with spring we want to sellD
And seek a finer place to dwellD
Our thoughts have turned from dens and domesE
We want the latest thing in homesE
To life we'll not be reconciledF
Until we have a bathroom tiledF
-
A butler's pantry we desireG
Although no butler do we hireG
Nell's life will be one round of gloomH
Without a closet for the broomH
And mine will dreary be and sourG
Unless the bathroom has a showerG
-
For months and months we've sat and dreamedI
Of paneled walls and ceilings beamedI
And built in cases for the booksJ
An attic room to be the cook'sJ
No house will she consent to viewK
Unless it has a sun room tooK
-
There must be wash bowls here and thereL
To save much climbing of the stairL
A sleeping porch we both demandM
This fad has swept throughout the landM
And Oh 'twill give her heart a wrenchN
Not to possess a few doors FrenchN
-
I want to dig and walk aroundO
At least full fifty feet of groundO
She wants the latest style in tubsP
I want more room for trees and shrubsP
And a garage with light and heatQ
That can be entered from the streetQ
-
The trouble is the things we seekR
Cannot be bought for ten a weekR
And all the joys for which we sighS
Are just too rich for us to buyS
We have the taste to cut a dashT
The thing we're lacking most is cashT
