Rhyme Scheme: ABCDCEFG HIJCKLHL IIHIHEKG HLKLHMHM NDKDIGHG

SAY young fellow just a minuteA
They 're your first long trousers ehB
And your little gray knee breechesC
Are forever put awayD
And your blouses and your stockingsC
And your little caps are goneE
For the shirts and cuffs of manhoodF
And you've got a derby onG
-
Yes you look well in them sonnyH
Why I can't believe my eyeaI
For it doesn't seem a year agoJ
Since you were just this sizeC
And a little pink cheeked youngsterK
Why you toddled more than ranL
Every night to meet your daddyH
And today you are a manL
-
Oh I don't know how to tell youI
But I want to yes I doI
That your mother and your daddyH
Both are mighty proud of youI
And we 're going to miss the babyH
That from us today has goneE
But that baby we'll rememberK
Though he has long trousers onG
-
We 're banking on you sonnyH
We'll help you all we canL
But it's up to you rememberK
Now to prove you are a manL
You can make us mighty happyH
You can make us mighty sadM
Just remember it's not manlyH
To do things you know are badM
-
I 'm not going to preach a sermonN
Mother's put your blouse awayD
And your breeches and I saw herK
Crying over them todayD
And I thought perhaps I 'd give youI
Just a thought to dwell uponG
Please remember you 're her babyH
Though you've got long trousers onG
