Grandma Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDECFFC GGHIIHJJKLL CCGAAGMMGCCG

There's a twinkle in her eyeA
O so merry O so slyA
That you never see the wrinkles in her faceB
She's so full of fun and playC
That you never see the grayC
In her tresses and you never see a traceB
Of the feebleness of yearsD
Born of heartaches and of tearsE
She's the youngest of the children still todayC
All the charm of youth remainsF
All her beauty she retainsF
O she's right up to the minute in her wayC
-
Just because she's seventy twoG
Any old thing will not doG
She believes that she must always look her bestH
Though her gowns are mostly blackI
She was never known to lackI
A little dash of color at her breastH
'Just because I'm old ' says sheJ
'Do not think I'm going to beJ
Out of style and frumpy looking for I'm notK
And when folks come in to callL
I'm not going to wear a shawlL
And cover up the splendid things I've got '-
-
O dear grandma let me sayC
As I look at you todayC
In your stylish gown of satin with its little touch of blueG
As I see your merry eyeA
When the years have wandered byA
May I only be as happy and as lovable as youG
May I come from out the gloomM
Of my troubles with the bloomM
Of a heart that's ever youthful still in viewG
With a dash of color gayC
To relieve the somber grayC
May I be as young as you at seventy twoG
