Fly A Clean Flag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAADDAAEF GGHHIIJJKKGGL M NNBBLLDDCCH

This I heard the Old Flag sayA
As I passed it yesterdayA
'Months ago your friendly handsB
Fastened me on slender strandsB
And with patriotic loveC
Placed me here to wave aboveC
You and yours I heard you sayA
On that long departed dayA
'Flag of all that's true and fineD
Wave above this house of mineD
Be the first at break of dayA
And the last at night to sayA
To the world this word of cheerE
Loyalty abideth here 'F
-
'Here on every wind that's blownG
O'er your' portal I have flownG
Rain and snow have battered meH
Storms at night have tattered meH
Dust of street and chimney stackI
Day by day have stained me blackI
And I've watched you passing thereJ
Wondering how much you careJ
Have you noticed that your flagK
Is to day a wind blown ragK
Has your love so careless grownG
By the long neglect you've shownG
That you never raise your eyeL
To the symbol that you fly '-
-
'Flag on which no stain has beenM
'Tis my sin that you're unclean '-
Then I answered in my shameN
'On my head must lie the blameN
Now with patriotic handsB
I release you from your strandsB
And a spotless flag shall flyL
Here to greet each passer byL
Nevermore shall Flag of mineD
Be a sad and sorry signD
Telling all who look aboveC
I neglect the thing I loveC
But my Flag of faith shall beH
Fit for every eye to see '-
